Taiyaki Recipes
Spam Musubi Taiyaki (makes 8-9 servings)
- Make taiyaki batter per package instructions
- Cut spam into 1cm slices (about 9 slices per can)
- Make a marinade of 1/4 cup soy sauce and 1/4 cup of sugar
- Optionally, add 1/4 cup oyster sauce and additional 1/4 cup sugar
- Marinate spam for 15 mins
- Drain off marinate (can reuse for other dishes) and fry spam over medium heat for a couple minutes each side. Then let spam cool
- Heat up taiyaki pan under medium-low heat, sprinkle some furikake (optional) into the pan then make taiyaki as usual: pour taiyaki batter until mold is 50% full, put a slice of spam, then cover with more batter and flip.
- Cook for about 2-3 minutes each side until done. Then enjoy!

Apple Pie Taiyaki (makes ~8 servings)
- Make taiyaki batter per package instructions
- Peel and chop 4 apple into 1/2 in pieces
- Into a pot, add 2 table spoons butter and 1 teaspoon cinnamon. Heat at medium heat.
- Add apples, 1/3 cup of sugar, and stir.
- (Optional) In a small bowl, mix 2 tablespoons water and 4 teaspoons cornstarch. And add to pot
- Stir apple mixture until apples are soft (not mushy) and sauce is thickened
- Heat up taiyaki pan under medium-low heat, sprinkle some coarse sugar (optional) into the pan then make taiyaki as usual: pour taiyaki batter until mold is 50% full, add about 2 tablespoons of apple mixture, then cover with more batter and flip.
- Cook for about 2-3 minutes each side until done. Then enjoy!
Ham & Cheese Taiyaki
- Make taiyaki batter per package instructions
- Heat up taiyaki pan under medium-low heat, then make taiyaki as usual: pour taiyaki batter until mold is 50% full, add 1-2 slices of ham and 1-2 slices of cheese. Pro tip: wrap the ham around the cheese to avoid cheese leaking out.
- Cover with more batter. Be sure that the cheese is covered by taiyaki batter. Then flip.
- Cook for about 2-3 minutes each side until done. Then enjoy!
