Taiyaki Recipes

Spam Musubi Taiyaki (makes 8-9 servings)

  1. Make taiyaki batter per package instructions
  2. Cut spam into 1cm slices (about 9 slices per can)
  3. Make a marinade of 1/4 cup soy sauce and 1/4 cup of sugar
    1. Optionally, add 1/4 cup oyster sauce and additional 1/4 cup sugar
  4. Marinate spam for 15 mins
  5. Drain off marinate (can reuse for other dishes) and fry spam over medium heat for a couple minutes each side. Then let spam cool
  6. Heat up taiyaki pan under medium-low heat, sprinkle some furikake (optional) into the pan then make taiyaki as usual: pour taiyaki batter until mold is 50% full, put a slice of spam, then cover with more batter and flip.
  7. Cook for about 2-3 minutes each side until done. Then enjoy!

Apple Pie Taiyaki (makes ~8 servings)

  1. Make taiyaki batter per package instructions
  2. Peel and chop 4 apple into 1/2 in pieces
  3. Into a pot, add 2 table spoons butter and 1 teaspoon cinnamon. Heat at medium heat.  
  4. Add apples, 1/3 cup of sugar, and stir. 
  5. (Optional) In a small bowl, mix 2 tablespoons water and 4 teaspoons cornstarch. And add to pot
  6. Stir apple mixture until apples are soft (not mushy) and sauce is thickened
  7. Heat up taiyaki pan under medium-low heat, sprinkle some coarse sugar (optional) into the pan then make taiyaki as usual: pour taiyaki batter until mold is 50% full, add about 2 tablespoons of apple mixture, then cover with more batter and flip.
  8. Cook for about 2-3 minutes each side until done. Then enjoy!

 

Ham & Cheese Taiyaki 

  1. Make taiyaki batter per package instructions
  2. Heat up taiyaki pan under medium-low heat, then make taiyaki as usual: pour taiyaki batter until mold is 50% full, add 1-2 slices of ham and 1-2 slices of cheese. Pro tip: wrap the ham around the cheese to avoid cheese leaking out.
  3. Cover with more batter. Be sure that the cheese is covered by taiyaki batter. Then flip.
  4. Cook for about 2-3 minutes each side until done. Then enjoy!
